CS2 PC Optimization
I spent years trying to fix the latency problems I had on my own PC, and I think I finally solved them. This is how I think about latency and performance now. The scripts behind it are in SSD Setup on GitHub.
- Consistency first
I want low end-to-end latency that stays the same every round. A change that raises average FPS but hurts frametime tails or stability doesn’t stay.
- Every setting has a job
A setting stays when I can say what it does in this machine’s chain. Being called an “FPS tweak” isn’t a reason.
- One PC, one config
Everything is built around my exact hardware. A setting that helps here isn’t assumed to help on another machine.
- Feel is a hypothesis
When something feels better, I test it against the last known-good state before I keep it. A script that exits without errors proves nothing about latency.
- One owner per layer
Drivers, NIC power, USB power, Windows policy and the game config each belong to one script, so changes don’t fight each other.
- Rebuilt from a format
Fresh Windows install, drivers, CS2 scripts, apps. The whole PC comes back in a fixed order, with versions and file hashes pinned.
- One source of truth
My autoexec is the authority for sens, resolution and crosshair. My KovaaK’s training package is synced to it, so I practice on exactly what I play on.
- Left out on purpose
HPET and BCD timer hacks, mass service deletion, pagefile and memory compression hacks, global interrupt affinity changes.
About Descrip
I’m Gökdeniz Yaktı, from Turkey. I play Counter-Strike 2 as Descrip.
- How did you start?
I’ve been around PC games since 2011. In 2016 my friends from school were playing Counter-Strike, so I started to play with them.
- Why “Descrip”?
Part of it was luck. I was thinking about what my nickname should be when the word “descrip” showed up in a Reddit post. I spend a lot of time thinking things through and I like explaining them, so the word described me well.
- Why AWP?
I started as a rifler and played rifle for a long time. In the teams I played with, I noticed I couldn’t affect how the game went enough with a rifle. I saw how much more I could do with an AWP, so I decided to become an AWPer.
- What have you played competitively?
Three seasons of ESEA Main, where I reached Rank A- and got to play with and against many teams and professional players. That was years ago. On Faceit I’m level 10, with a peak above 3,900 ELO in CS:GO. In CS2 Premier I’ve been above 30K.
- What do you do outside CS?
I study and I work. Apart from both, I’m moving toward my dreams. They’re what I care about most in life, and I have more than one.
- Where do the clips come from?
With school, work and my dreams, I have to manage my time well. Clips happen on their own while I play, so I put them to use with a system that posts them automatically to YouTube Shorts, TikTok and Instagram Reels.
